Rawalpindi deploys 9,500 police personnel to strengthen security across the city. The police aim to maintain law and order and protect key locations. Meanwhile, officers have increased surveillance, set up checkpoints and conducted a citywide flag march.

According to Dawn, the deployment was reported on October 12, 2026. Officers are guarding major intersections, entry points, government buildings and Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. In addition, authorities are enforcing Section 144 across the city.

How Police Personnel Are Deployed

A police spokesperson said around 3,500 personnel are guarding intersections, entry points and important government buildings. Another 6,000 officers are performing security duties at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. The stadium is hosting a T20 cricket series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

More than 750 personnel are also deployed in the Red Zone. This area extends from Mall Road towards the Old Airport area. In addition, police have started random vehicle checks at 31 checkpoints. These checks aim to monitor movement and improve security in sensitive areas.

Section 144 and Surveillance Measures

Police have established 31 special pickets across sensitive areas. Senior officers, station house officers and constables are also taking part in security duties. Furthermore, 83 Elite Force commandos are included in the arrangements.

Police personnel are also stationed at 10 Metrobus stations between Saddar and Faizabad. These measures aim to improve security at key transport points.

City Police Officer Hassan Mushtaq Sukhaira led the citywide flag march. It began at Police Lines Headquarters and passed through Ammar Chowk, Koral, Rahimabad, Rawal Road, Murree Road, Faizabad, Mall Road, Saddar and Peshawar Road. The march then returned to its starting point. Senior police officials and personnel from different units also took part.

Meanwhile, authorities are using Safe City surveillance cameras to monitor activity across Rawalpindi. These cameras can help police identify security concerns and respond to incidents more quickly.

Political Situation and Cricket Security

The security measures come as authorities remain alert to the political situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. At the same time, Rawalpindi is hosting international cricket matches. Therefore, police have increased security to protect players, officials and spectators.

On October 11, the City Police Officer reviewed the law and order situation at Police Lines Headquarters. He also examined security arrangements for the Pakistan-Sri Lanka T20 series.

According to the Associated Press of Pakistan, he directed officers to enforce Section 144. He also warned that authorities would take legal action against those who violated the restrictions.

Residents and commuters should follow police instructions and cooperate at checkpoints. They should also check traffic arrangements before travelling near the stadium or other sensitive locations. As of October 12, 2026, reports had not specified when the current security deployment would end.
