Pakistan has launched airstrikes against terror camps and hideouts near the Afghan border. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said the strikes killed 28 militants, including several suicide bombers.
Security forces also carried out intelligence-based operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Officials said the combined operations killed 37 militants. The strikes came after several recent attacks on security forces in the province.
Pakistan Targets Terrorist Hideouts
The ministry said security forces targeted three sites linked to Fitna al-Khawarij and affiliated militant groups. One site served as a training centre for suicide bombers, according to officials.
The strikes also destroyed weapons and ammunition stored at the locations. Officials said security forces used credible intelligence before launching the operation.
The government also said forces took measures to protect civilians during the strikes. Authorities have not reported further details about possible civilian casualties from Pakistan’s side.
Ground Operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Security forces launched ground operations in Kohat, Hangu and Thall before the airstrikes. Officials said these operations killed nine militants.
The nine deaths brought the reported total from the combined operations to 37 militants. Security forces continue to conduct operations in areas affected by militant activity.
Pakistan has repeatedly raised concerns about militant groups operating from Afghan territory. Islamabad has accused these groups of planning or supporting attacks inside Pakistan.
Afghanistan Reports Civilian Casualties
Afghan authorities have given a different account of the airstrikes. They said the strikes killed at least three civilians and injured four others in eastern Afghanistan.
Reuters and the Associated Press also reported the conflicting casualty claims. Independent sources have not yet resolved the differences between the Pakistani and Afghan accounts.
The latest strikes add to tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan over cross-border militancy. Pakistan says it will continue its counterterrorism efforts against groups it considers a threat.
The situation remains developing. Authorities may release more information about the targets, casualties and wider security operation in the coming hours.
