Lahore Traffic Police has trained 34 women to drive rickshaws. The training is part of a new initiative launched on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. The programme aims to help women gain practical skills and earn an independent income.

The training took place in collaboration with a private university. Sessions were held at driving schools in Bahria Town and Manawan, Lahore. As a result, participants can explore professional driving as a possible source of employment.

Rickshaw Training Aims to Create Jobs for Women

The programme aims to help women earn a living through driving. By learning to operate rickshaws, participants can explore work in the transport sector. This skill may also help them support themselves and their families.

Lahore Chief Traffic Officer Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi said the initiative aims to provide women with dignified employment opportunities. He explained that trained women could use their driving skills to earn money.

In addition, the programme encourages women to enter occupations traditionally dominated by men. However, employment opportunities may depend on vehicle availability, driving licences and other requirements.

Punjab Expands Women’s Driving Training

The rickshaw programme builds on Lahore’s efforts to improve women’s access to driving education. The city has established dedicated driving schools that offer car and scooter training to women. These schools help women develop useful driving skills in a supportive environment.

According to the October 14 report, Lahore has 12 driving schools for women. More than 16,000 women have received car and scooter driving training through these facilities. Meanwhile, the new rickshaw programme introduces another skill that women could use for commercial work.

Chief Traffic Officer Shirazi said Lahore Traffic Police would continue to support women’s independence and economic stability. The department also aims to improve their employment prospects.

What the Initiative Means for Women in Lahore

Lahore women rickshaw driving training could open another path to self-employment. Women who learn this skill may be able to earn money and become more financially independent. It could also encourage more women to work in the city’s transport sector.

However, the reported programme does not confirm that participants will receive rickshaws, financial assistance or guaranteed jobs. Details about future training sessions and registration procedures are also not yet available in the report.

Further information about the programme’s expansion and additional support for trained women is still awaited.
