Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a special petrol relief scheme for motorcycles, rickshaws and small cars in Pakistan. Under the scheme, eligible users will receive a subsidy of Rs100 per litre to help reduce the impact of rising fuel prices.
The announcement came on Sunday, September 13, as international oil prices continued to put pressure on Pakistan’s fuel market. The latest petrol price increase pushed the retail rate to Rs375.82 per litre from September 12.
Who Can Get the Petrol Relief?
According to Business Recorder, motorcycle and rickshaw users will receive relief on up to 20 litres of petrol per month. Owners of cars with engines up to 800cc will qualify for assistance on up to 30 litres each month.
The Rs100 per litre subsidy could provide the following monthly benefits:
Motorcycles and rickshaws: Up to Rs2,000.
Small cars up to 800cc: Up to Rs3,000.
These amounts represent the maximum announced subsidy. They do not mean that petrol prices at filling stations will fall by Rs100 per litre.
The scheme aims to support people who depend on motorcycles, rickshaws and small cars for daily travel and work. However, the government has not yet shared complete details about the application process, eligibility checks or payment start date.
Why Has the Government Announced Petrol Relief?
Petrol prices in Pakistan have increased as international oil markets continue to fluctuate. On September 11, the government raised petrol prices by Rs5.02 per litre. The new price reached Rs375.82 per litre, while high-speed diesel increased to Rs403.32 per litre.
The government also revised petrol prices earlier in September. These changes have increased transport costs for households, workers and small businesses across Pakistan.
Motorcycle users and rickshaw drivers are especially affected because petrol is a regular part of their daily expenses. The new petrol relief scheme is intended to reduce some of this financial pressure.
When Will the Petrol Relief Start?
The government is expected to announce more details about the subsidy soon. These may include the application process, eligibility requirements and the method used to verify fuel consumption.
The Rs100 per litre relief is limited to eligible motorcycles, rickshaws and small cars. It does not apply automatically to every petrol consumer in Pakistan.
For now, the announced scheme offers targeted support to fuel users facing higher costs. Consumers will need to wait for the government’s official implementation details before they can claim the benefit.
