A suspect in the Rawalpindi child sexual assault and murder case was killed in an alleged encounter with Punjab’s Crime Control Department (CCD) on Tuesday, October 13, police said.
The suspect was identified as Mumrez Abbasi, a resident of Abbottabad. Police said the encounter took place near Alamabad Stop, close to Children’s Park, in the Ratta Amral area of Rawalpindi.
According to police, two alleged accomplices escaped during the incident. Officers have launched a search to locate them.
Details of the Rawalpindi Child Murder Case
The case involves the alleged sexual assault and murder of a 15-year-old girl. The victim was the suspect’s niece.
According to investigators, the girl had left home to attend a madrassa. The suspect allegedly took her to his residence, where he assaulted and strangled her. Her body was later found at the house.
Following the incident, the victim’s father filed a complaint. Police registered the case at Pirwadhai Police Station and began investigating the allegations.
Investigators also examined CCTV footage linked to the case. Reports said the footage showed the suspect meeting the girl on a street and handing her money.
Police Recover Pistol After CCD Encounter
Police said officers recovered a .30-bore pistol and ammunition after the encounter. The CCD had been working to trace the suspect in connection with the murder investigation.
