Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced that the Karachi University Road project will be completed within two months. The project has now entered its final stage, bringing relief to thousands of commuters who use the busy route every day.

Memon made the announcement on September 27 while inaugurating the Mosamiyat Flyover. The flyover is part of the Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project in Karachi.

The latest deadline follows several earlier targets for completing and reopening University Road. In August, Memon said the road would be made fully motorable by September 15. The Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) had also set targets for opening mixed-traffic lanes during September.

University Road Work Nears Completion

According to Memon, construction work on University Road is now close to completion. He said the difficulties faced by commuters have been reduced as work has progressed.

Memon also acknowledged the delays and apologised to Karachi residents for the disruption caused by the lengthy construction work.

The Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) is handling major parts of the road development. This includes work on the mixed-traffic corridor and drainage system.

Construction resumed after the Sindh government assigned these works to FWO. The move followed delays in the wider Red Line BRT project.

Red Line BRT Construction Continues

The rehabilitation of University Road is closely connected to the Red Line BRT project. The wider project has faced several delays during construction.

While University Road is nearing completion, work on BRT stations and other infrastructure is still continuing.

Memon said the Mosamiyat Flyover, inaugurated on September 27, would be opened for public use after the remaining formalities are completed. He also said construction work on the BRT stations was progressing.

The Red Line BRT has a separate completion timeline. According to reports from August, its deadline had been extended to June 2027.

This means the expected completion of University Road should not be confused with the completion of the entire Red Line BRT project.

When Will University Road Be Completed?

Based on Memon’s latest announcement, the remaining work on University Road is expected to be completed within two months of September 27.

If the announced timeline remains unchanged, the project could reach completion by late November 2026.

The completion of the road is expected to make daily travel easier for Karachi commuters. However, construction linked to the Red Line BRT project will continue after the road work is completed.
