An internet outage in Islamabad and Rawalpindi has affected some mobile data and broadband users on Sunday, September 27, 2026. The disruption has caused slow or unavailable internet services in several areas of the twin cities.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) said a damaged optical fiber cable caused the connectivity problems. The cable belongs to one telecom operator, while the damage has also affected some users of other service providers.
Why the Internet Is Not Working
The current problem involves physical damage to an optical fiber connection. It does not indicate a nationwide internet shutdown.
Users in several parts of Islamabad and Rawalpindi have reported slow speeds and temporary loss of connectivity. Some mobile data customers have also faced problems accessing online services.
The PTA said the disruption remains limited to specific areas. Some locations in the northern region have also experienced weaker connectivity, while services in central and southern parts of Pakistan continue to operate normally.
The internet problems come as Islamabad and Rawalpindi face increased security arrangements ahead of planned political activity. However, current reports attribute the connectivity disruption to the damaged fiber cable.
PTA Begins Repair Work
Telecom technical teams are working to locate the damaged section and restore the connection. The PTA said repair work is underway.
The restoration process may take several hours. Until technicians complete the work, users in affected areas may continue to experience slow speeds or temporary service interruptions.
The internet outage in Islamabad and Rawalpindi has affected people who rely on online services for work, education and communication. Businesses and other internet-dependent services may also experience temporary connectivity problems.
The PTA continues to monitor the situation while technical teams work on the damaged network. Officials have not announced a nationwide internet shutdown.
Internet services should gradually return to normal once technicians repair the damaged cable and restore full network connectivity.
