Bitcoin falls under $84K as oil prices surged above $100 a barrel, putting pressure on global risk assets. The cryptocurrency dropped to around $83,840 before recovering slightly above the $84,000 mark.
The decline came as Brent crude climbed to about $101.50 a barrel. Higher energy prices raised fresh concerns about inflation and interest rates. The stronger dollar and rising US Treasury yields added further pressure on risk-sensitive assets such as Bitcoin.
Why Bitcoin Fell Below $84,000
The latest Bitcoin decline followed a sharp rise in oil prices linked to growing tensions around tanker traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. Markets reacted to reports of attacks on commercial vessels, increasing concerns about energy supplies and global inflation.
Bitcoin had traded near $86,600 on Tuesday before falling sharply during Wednesday’s Asian trading session. The move pushed the cryptocurrency below the $84,000 level that some traders had been watching closely.
Other major cryptocurrencies also declined. Ethereum fell about 3.5%, while XRP dropped nearly 3%. Dogecoin suffered a larger decline of about 5%, according to market data.
Oil Prices Add Pressure to Risk Assets
The oil surge has become a key concern for investors. Brent crude rose almost 1% to around $101.50, while the US dollar strengthened against major currencies.
The 10-year US Treasury yield also increased by three basis points to about 5.31%. Higher yields can reduce the appeal of speculative assets because investors have stronger returns available from traditional financial instruments.
Asian stock markets also moved lower. The MSCI Asia Pacific index fell around 0.6%, while technology shares in several major Asian markets came under pressure. The broader move reflected growing caution among investors.
Traders Watch the $83,000 Level
Bitcoin’s next important level is now around $83,000. Market analysts cited by CoinDesk said a sustained break below that level could increase the risk of a move toward $80,000.
The cryptocurrency market also saw heavy liquidations during the sell-off. Total crypto liquidations reached roughly $547 million over 24 hours, adding to the pressure on leveraged traders.
Investors are also waiting for the US Federal Reserve’s September meeting minutes. The release could provide fresh clues about the central bank’s interest-rate outlook.
For Pakistani crypto investors, the global move is also important because Bitcoin’s dollar price directly affects the value of local holdings. Further changes in global risk sentiment, oil prices and US monetary policy could continue to influence cryptocurrency prices in the coming sessions.
