The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested 36 suspects during raids on two alleged illegal call centres in Lahore. The raids took place in Faisal Town and Johar Town.
Authorities said the centres were allegedly being used to target foreign nationals through fraudulent calls.
According to NCCIA officials, the suspects allegedly used dial-up software and other digital tools to contact people abroad. They reportedly posed as providers of mobile upgrades and telecommunications services. Meanwhile, investigators recovered a large number of computers, laptops and mobile phones.
Details of the Lahore Raids
The NCCIA said information from the first raid helped investigators trace another suspected illegal call centre. The agency then carried out a second operation. However, security personnel at the premises reportedly resisted the raid.
Officials said the seized computers, laptops and phones contained software and data allegedly linked to fraudulent activities. After that, investigators secured and sealed the digital evidence for further investigation.
Several vehicles were also taken into custody. Authorities suspected that the vehicles had been purchased using proceeds from criminal activity. Investigators are now working to establish the identities and roles of the alleged call centre owners, facilitators and other suspects.
Cases Registered Under PECA and PPC
According to officials, cases have been registered against the suspects under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) and the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
The allegations remain under investigation and are subject to legal proceedings. Authorities will examine the seized digital material and other evidence. They will also determine how the alleged operations were organised and whether more people were involved.
NCCIA Director General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi said the action against illegal call centres was aimed at protecting Pakistan’s digital and financial reputation.
The Lahore operation follows a separate NCCIA raid in Rawalpindi. In that case, 61 people were arrested at an alleged illegal call centre in Satellite Town. Officials said they also seized 71 mobile phones and 155 laptops.
The investigation into the Lahore call centres is continuing. Authorities are expected to examine the recovered digital evidence and trace any wider network, financial links or overseas connections.
