A 3-year-old girl found murdered in Islamabad after going missing from Jhangi Syedan has led to the arrest of a close relative, police said. The child, identified as Sakina, disappeared while playing outside her home on September 22. Police later recovered her body from an isolated area near the settlement.
Police said the family noticed the girl was missing at around 2pm. Her mother later approached police, and a kidnapping case was registered at Noon Police Station. Investigators formed seven teams to search for the child and examine available evidence.
Police Arrest Suspect in Islamabad Girl’s Murder
Investigators used CCTV footage, technology and local intelligence to trace the child’s movements. Police found footage showing Sakina walking with a young man at around 2:15pm.
Investigators identified the man as Kashif, the husband of Sakina’s elder sister. Police questioned him after reviewing the footage and later arrested him. According to police, Kashif led investigators to the location where the child’s body had been left.
Police allege that the suspect sexually assaulted the child before killing her. They also allege that he strangled her before leaving her body in a rainwater drain in an isolated area near Jhangi Syedan. These allegations remain part of the ongoing investigation.
Forensic Investigation Underway
Police said they recovered clothing linked to the suspect and sent DNA and other samples for forensic testing. The child underwent a post-mortem examination before authorities handed her body over to the family.
The suspect has also been presented before a court, which granted police physical remand for further investigation. Murder-related charges have been added to the case that police initially registered after the girl went missing.
The investigation remains underway. Police are examining CCTV footage, forensic evidence and other circumstances surrounding the child’s death. Officials have said they will continue investigating the case and determine the full facts through the legal process.
