The PTI protest mobile services suspension plan has emerged as authorities prepare for the party’s September 27 march towards Islamabad. Punjab authorities have asked the federal government to restrict mobile and internet services in selected parts of Rawalpindi and across Attock.

The request does not mean that a final telecom shutdown has already taken effect. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) said on September 23 that it had not received formal instructions from the federal authorities to suspend or downgrade services.

PTI Protest Mobile Services Suspension: Areas Affected

The Punjab Home Department has requested restrictions on 2G, 3G and 4G services at selected locations in Rawalpindi. The requested areas include Barahma Bahtar, Ganjoo, Ahata, Taxila City, Wah Saddar, Thallian and Chakri.

The department has also requested mobile and internet service restrictions across Attock district from September 27. Police requested the measures as part of preparations for the expected law-and-order situation.

The exact implementation will depend on formal federal instructions. PTA officials said the authority will act only after receiving directions from the competent federal authorities.

Roads Face Restrictions Ahead of PTI Protest

Authorities have also restricted traffic on major routes connecting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) said the M-1 would close between Islamabad Toll Plaza and Chachh Interchange. The M-14 would also close between Hakla and Kundal. Authorities have also closed the GT Road at Attock Khurd.

Security Arrangements Continue

The Punjab government has also requested Rangers deployment in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Mianwali from September 22 to October 5. The move aims to support police in maintaining law and order during the expected protests.

Islamabad authorities have separately enforced Section 144 and banned public gatherings in the federal capital. The restrictions come as PTI prepares for its September 27 protest.

For residents, travellers and mobile users, the key point remains that telecom restrictions depend on final federal instructions. The situation may change before September 27, so people should check official announcements and road advisories before travelling.
