Pakistan Army forces responded to firing from Afghan Taliban positions in the Kurram sector on Tuesday after security forces foiled an attempted cross-border infiltration, Pakistani security sources said.

According to Radio Pakistan, the infiltration attempt involved militants identified by Pakistani authorities as Fitna-al-Khawarij. Security sources said the group tried to enter Pakistan from Afghan posts in Nangarhar and Paktia provinces. Pakistani forces stopped the attempt along the border.

Afghan Taliban Open Fire on Pakistani Posts

After the infiltration attempt failed, Afghan Taliban forces opened fire on Pakistani border posts in Kurram, according to Pakistani security sources. The sources described the firing as unprovoked.

The attackers used heavy weapons, mortars and other arms against Pakistani positions, Radio Pakistan reported. Pakistan’s security forces then launched a retaliatory response against the firing.

Pakistani forces targeted several Afghan Taliban border posts and mortar positions. They also used small arms, heavy weapons and artillery during the response, according to the security sources cited by Radio Pakistan and Dawn.

The sources said the operation forced several Afghan Taliban personnel to leave their positions. Pakistani forces also maintained control of the border area following the exchange.

Security Forces Remain Alert

Pakistan’s security forces continue to monitor the Kurram border following the incident. Officials have said troops remain prepared to respond to further threats or cross-border attacks.

The latest confrontation comes amid heightened security tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Islamabad has repeatedly raised concerns about militant groups operating from Afghan territory and has called on the Afghan Taliban authorities to prevent attacks against Pakistan.

On Wednesday, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also urged the Afghan Taliban to take concrete and verifiable action against terrorist groups operating from Afghan soil. He made the remarks during an OIC Contact Group meeting on Afghanistan on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

The situation along the Kurram border remains closely monitored. Pakistani authorities have not provided further details about casualties from the latest exchange.
