Punjab’s Finance Department has approved Rs4 billion for College Teaching Interns (CTIs) across Punjab. The funds will cover payments for interns who are expected to work in government colleges. The development was reported on September 21.
The Punjab Higher Education Department (HED) has also proposed hiring more than 9,000 College Teaching Interns. The recruitment plan is currently awaiting approval from the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.
Rs4 Billion Approved for CTIs
The Finance Department has completed the financial arrangements for the Rs4 billion CTI allocation. The funds are expected to be released to the Higher Education Department once the recruitment plan gets the required approval.
The proposed hiring aims to help government colleges manage teaching needs across Punjab. CTIs are used as a temporary measure to support colleges facing teacher shortages.
Over 9,000 College Teaching Interns Proposed
The latest plan follows earlier efforts to recruit more than 9,000 temporary college teachers in Punjab. The Higher Education Department has been working on the CTI recruitment process for the new academic session.
In August, colleges across Punjab were allowed to recruit CTIs against vacant teaching positions for the 2026–27 academic session.
Under the reported payment structure, CTIs teaching intermediate classes could receive Rs50,000 per month. Those teaching graduate and BS-level classes could receive Rs60,000 per month.
The CTI programme is designed to provide temporary teaching support while colleges deal with vacant positions and faculty shortages.
CTI Recruitment Approval Pending
The Rs4 billion funding has been approved, but the recruitment process is not yet fully complete. The latest report says the recruitment summary is still pending with the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.
The next steps will depend on approval from the Chief Minister’s Office and the release of the allocated funds.
Until then, the exact timeline for CTI recruitment and placements has not been finalized.
