The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested 100 people, including 17 foreign nationals, after raiding an alleged illegal call centre in Islamabad.
The raid is part of the NCCIA’s ongoing crackdown on cybercrime, fraudulent call centres and online financial scams. Authorities also recovered electronic devices and data from the premises for further investigation.
NCCIA Seals Islamabad Call Centre
According to an NCCIA spokesperson, investigators found applications that the agency described as immoral. They also found financial schemes allegedly targeting people in India and Brazil.
Officials seized electronic equipment and relevant data during the raid. The recovered material will now be examined to determine how the call centre operated and whether it was involved in fraudulent activities.
The NCCIA has not yet released the names of all 100 arrested individuals. It has also not provided details of the specific allegations against each suspect. Further legal action will depend on the findings of the investigation.
The raid comes as Pakistani authorities step up action against suspected illegal call centres. Earlier in August, the NCCIA detained 114 foreign nationals during a raid at a call centre in Islamabad’s Gulberg Greens over alleged online activities. The FIA also arrested hundreds of foreign nationals during the wider crackdown.
NCCIA Intensifies Cybercrime Crackdown
The Islamabad call centre raid follows a nationwide enforcement drive ordered by NCCIA Director General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi.
On September 16, Rizvi directed field officers to take action against illegal call centres, online financial scams, gambling applications and ATM card-skimming activities.
The NCCIA said its crackdown is continuing across Pakistan. Investigators are working to identify networks allegedly involved in cybercrime and financial fraud.
Further details may emerge as officials examine the electronic devices and data recovered during the Islamabad raid. The case remains under investigation, and authorities have yet to announce the final charges against the arrested individuals.
